Burnsville and Yancey County

You could not find a better location for your vacation, business retreat, or club rally. Just 35 miles northwest of Asheville and a close proximity to the Blue Ridge Parkway, Yancey County is known as "The Heart of the Blue Ridge". Burnsville with its many eclectic shops and restaurants is the perfect base camp for high country adventure.

Mild Weather

Our seasonal changes make Yancey County perfect for outdoor activities. Winters are mild with plenty of skiing at higher elevation resorts. Springs are cool with almost tropical vegetation. Summers are dry and comfortable. Fall color is a live painting of reds and golds that rivals or surpasses what is found on the Blue Ridge Parkway.

Spring

April's Burnsville Metric kicks off the season with a 60 mile bike ride through Yancey County. The spring rainfall transforms the foliage to a lush tropical forest that invite hiking to view waterfalls. The high water level in the Toe and Cane Rivers make for thrilling kayak rides. At the end of spring is the Toe River Arts Council's (TRAC) Spring Studio Tour which is a favorite of art collectors throughout the Southeast.

Summer

Summer is one of the busiest times of the year. The Parkway Playhouse begins the 61st season of top-notch theatre for enthusiastic audiences. Visit the web site for play dates and seat reservations. Another favorite is TRAC's Music in the Mountains Folk Festival will be held at the nearby Burnsville Town Center.
