My husband and good friends Cynthia and Jake have been trying to get me on the trails for about a year now. Finally giving in and armed with my hat and gloves, I was pleasently surprised and enjoyed every minute of it.
Even was rewarded with hot chocolate and cookies at the end. Not a bad way to spend a winter afternoon with friends.

A Saturday “moderately difficult” hike to Crabtree Falls is planned by the NC High Peaks Trail Association for January 14, 2012. The loop trail picked out for this hike is 6.5 miles, with a steep ascent up an old wagon road and a possibly icy descent to the falls. The hike will end at Dennis Smith’s house on Seven Mile Ridge Road where he will serve chili. Hikers should meet at the Burnsville Town Square at 9:30 am or at the trail head in Celo at 10:00 am. Please call Dennis at 675-9459 or 284-4000 so he can get a head count and provide directions to the trail head for hikers who don’t car pool from town. Hikers are invited to bring a side dish that can be dropped off before the hike
